When it comes to dental implants, they are actually comprised of various parts, which include: the implant, the abutment, and the prosthetic restoration. The actual implant itself is a tiny, titanium post which is surgically attached to the patient’s jaw bone, a tiny portion of the implant remains visible following the procedure. Once the implants have healed and fused with the bone, the abutments can then be attached to the implant, allowing the prosthetic restoration to be secured to the implant. The prosthetic restoration can be different depending upon your oral health and smile goals. Dental crowns are often used to replace a single tooth, while dental bridges, partial dentures, and even complete dentures can be used to replace multiple or even all of your teeth at once.
